Law Society produces practice note on cancellation of contracts

Under the Cancellation of Contracts made in a Consumer's Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008, which came into force on 1 October 2008, you must, in certain circumstances, give your client written notice of their right to cancel a contract within seven days.

The Regulations are likely to apply to a wide range of contracts made between solicitors and their clients. This Practice Note considers in what circumstances the Regulations will apply to contracts between solicitors and their clients, and explains the consequences if the Regulations apply.

This practice note is particularly relevant to private client practitioners who make visits to homes and hospitals to take instructions from clients.
